Worktops

There are a number of choices for worktops.  The most popular are wooden, granite, engineered stone, Corian, stainless steel, and laminate worktops. The general rule is to have a contrasting colour of worktop to the kitchen units. E.g. if you have a wooden kitchen then you might want a granite worktop. A painted kitchen could have a granite or a wooden worktop.

Wooden worktops

Wooden worktops look and feel great in the kitchen and compliment painted kitchen units. They will require occasional sanding and oiling.

Wooden worktops are available in most hardwoods (see materials) but are usually made using strips of wood (called staves). Generally the larger and longer the staves, the more expensive the worktop.

We can supply and fit your wooden worktops.

Corian

Made of 1/3 acrylic resin and 2/3 natural minerals (a bi-product material from aluminium production) Corian offers an eco friendly worksurface with a long working life. Upstands and moulded sinks are also possible using this very versatile product.

Higham Furniture are authorised fabricators of Corian.  We are now able to also fabricate Corian doors.

Granite Worktops

Granite worktops compliment wooden kitchen units and provide a very long lasting option. We recommend that the new kitchen units be installed and then a template of the worktop can be made and the granite cut to fit. This will extend the installation time, but it guarantees a good fit.

We do not supply granite worktops but we are able to recommend granite companies to you.

Engineered Stone Worktops

Engineered or composite stone is made of over 90% quartz or granite which is bonded together to make a product which is stronger and more stain resistant than granite. It lacks some of the natural inconsistencies of granite but can be a good choice for vibrant or light colours.

We do not supply engineered stone worktops but we are able to recommend companies to you.

Laminate Worktops

Laminate worktops are the most cost effective option and can be provided a number of wooden and granite effects. We tend to find that our customers prefer the more natural options available.
