We recently visited the 2013 KBB London exhibition here in London. As always, there were all manner of gadgets and modern innovations on show. The lighting exhibits in particular got us thinking about how we interact with our environment, and how we can have fun doing it.
Behold! The interactive LED light-board. This brilliant accessory can be mounted behind or beneath any translucent surface and lights up whenever something moves nearby.

Imagine this under a Corian Ice worktop or behind frosted glass. The boards are fully programmable and available in several colours, with the option of programming the LED’s to react to an object placed above. This makes for a brilliant party piece, as the worktop reacts to the placing of a guest’s glass, beautifully illuminating it from beneath.
Another idea we loved was combining LED strips with glass. We already use LED’s in our kitchens as internal lighting for wall units, dressers and larders, but how about adding interest to your glazed units by making the shelves light up, bathing glassware and china in a subtle glow.
LEDs are much more energy efficient than older, incandescent lights, emitting more light per watt with a typical lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, which makes them a great option for the modern, environmentally conscious kitchen. Why not consider them for your kitchen project, and make your kitchen glow!
