The topic of sustainability and of course the global climate crisis runs through the way we live and work. One of the ways we strive as a business to produce shaker kitchens that are sustainable is through the coatings we use to finish them.
Sustainable coatings
The choices we have made as a business around our coatings, have sustainability at their heart. It’s a balance between meeting the needs of our customers and ensuring we’re not compromising future generations through the products we use. To that end we finish all our kitchens in water-based paint. This reduces chemical emissions that could be harmful to the environment. It also means as a business we can manage our waste in the way that there is minimal impact on the environment through the lack of solvents.
On our carcasses for the cabinets we use a clear coated lacquer that we have sourced with the same sustainability goals to sustainability in mind. The product is not solvent based which this means a reduction in emissions during production and it allows us to minimise waste as they do not contain toxic chemicals
Is sustainability important for the end user
In short yes but this is not just about the client wanting to do the right thing for the environment, it is also about their health and the emissions within their home. Solvent based coatings contain chemicals that can continue to emit from the surface long after it has dried which is why at Higham we have made the decision to use water-based paints on our kitchens.
