Here at Higham, we specialise in creating and installing unique, hand-built kitchen furniture. Unlike many retailers, the interiors we produce are truly bespoke. We tailor all our designs to your exact requirements before individually crafting each piece to order at our Hampshire workshop. Exceptional quality and meticulous attention to detail underpin everything we do.
Now, we might be somewhat biased, but we believe opting for a bespoke kitchen is one of the best ways to enhance the heart of your home. Everyone’s lifestyle and tastes are different, so it makes sense to design your kitchen around you. From maximising every inch of space to complementing your individual needs, bespoke kitchens offer a host of wonderful benefits. Below are some excellent reasons why a beautiful, custom-made kitchen is well worth considering.
Made to fit your space.
Many retailers only have access to a standard range of cabinet sizes which means relying on filler panels to hide any gaps. A bespoke kitchen can be tailored to fit the exact dimensions of your room, ensuring every last millimetre of space is put to good use. This can be especially handy if your kitchen includes tricky architectural features such as structural pillars, alcoves, or sloping ceilings.
In the kitchen below, we built a bespoke bank of tall units to fit the area between the new extension and the remaining structural nib. As well as maximising all-important storage space, the custom cabinetry brings a seamlessly elegant and beautifully balanced edge to the design.

From unusual layouts to oddly positioned doorways, all kitchens have their quirks, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! To help our Kensal Rise clients incorporate a much-needed dining area into their long, narrow space, we designed and crafted a bespoke banquette seat. Featuring storage drawers and plug sockets, the beautiful custom-made bench enables our clients to get much more from their space.

Designed around your lifestyle.
The modern kitchen is so much more than just a place to cook. Whether you often find yourself catching up on work while waiting for dinner or love nothing more than embarking on new baking challenges, how you use your space is unique. Going bespoke offers you the opportunity to tailor your kitchen to your individual lifestyle. This might include creating a quiet spot to plug in your laptop, a dedicated baking pantry, or any manner of innovative and unusual solutions. With a bespoke kitchen, your individual requirements should be at the forefront of your design, resulting in a space that truly enhances daily living.
We incorporated a custom space for our clients to neatly position their dog’s bed in this Puttenham-based utility room. Rather than leaving the area below the counter completely empty, we crafted a bespoke pair of drawers to ensure not an inch of precious storage space would go to waste.

Our Barnes client’s spacious kitchen diner offered plenty of room to incorporate a host of beautiful bespoke features. We started by building a lovely cosy seating nook shouldered by an elegant bookshelf and generous pantry cupboard. Little Greene’s deep yet restful Livid adds to the intimate feel, creating the perfect spot to work on a crossword or leaf through recipe books. We also designed a magnificent cocktail cabinet to accompany the dining area. This feature undeniably makes the ultimate addition to hosting and entertaining.

Allows you to express your individual style.
As the focal point of your home and a setting for many a social occasion, the look of your kitchen is every bit as important as how easy it is to use. And like your practical requirements, your individual style is just as personal. The custom nature of a bespoke kitchen means your choice of colours, finishes, accessories, and design features is virtually unlimited. Opting for a bespoke kitchen allows you to embrace your creativity and achieve a space that truly captures your personality and complements your home’s aesthetic.
Featured in Utopia Kitchen & Bathroom magazine, this showstopping and unique interior made a fitting centrepiece to our client’s quirky Arts & Crafts home. Our clients had a strong vision for their space, imagining bold metallic accents, dramatic colours, and curved detailing. We worked closely with them to help translate their ideas into the spectacular bespoke kitchen you see below.

Beautiful craftsmanship & exquisite quality.
From the initial design stages through to build and installation, creating a bespoke kitchen demands exceptional craftsmanship and professional skill. Your designer will have carefully considered and accurately measured every component. Next, a skilled joiner will execute every cut and join with exacting precision, ensuring each cabinet seamlessly slots into place. Their tailormade nature means they are largely crafted in small-scale workshops from the highest quality materials. Creating a bespoke kitchen is undeniably a labour of love, and this shines through in every detail.
This bespoke glazed dresser with walnut detailing designed for clients in Battersea epitomises breathtaking craftsmanship. From the custom walnut shelves to the beautifully symmetrical glazed cabinets, every detail is simply perfect.

Better for the environment.
Sustainability is a growing concern for many consumers, and it’s certainly something we’re passionate about here at Higham. While we’ve taken extra care to reduce the environmental impact of our bespoke kitchens by using FSC timber, low VOC paints, and eliminating waste, their impressive longevity also makes them an excellent sustainable choice. Built to last and tailored to your specific needs, a timeless and elegant bespoke kitchen should provide a lifetime of satisfaction. Furthermore, if you want to refresh your space in a few years’ time, all it takes is a lick of paint.

Bespoke kitchens undoubtedly offer many benefits. Who wouldn’t want a beautiful kitchen tailored to their every need? However, for many, budget is a crucial factor. The materials, time and craftsmanship involved in creating a truly bespoke kitchen mean they tend to be more expensive than ‘off-the-shelf’ designs. Though it’s worth bearing in mind that a handcrafted, bespoke kitchen can last a lifetime when properly cared for and maintained.
