We designed this painted Shaker kitchen to complement our client’s Edwardian home. Our brief was to produce a traditional kitchen with a contemporary twist – and to avoid anything that was too ‘country’. There were lots of changes along the way as our clients had to rebuild some existing foundations, which, needless to say, had quite an effect on their plans. Happily, we ended up with more space to create the perfect kitchen. The final layout includes a larger-than-originally-planned island, which is painted in a bold blue, the sink is positioned to provide views over the garden whilst prepping or washing up, and the glazed cabinets add a beautiful element of symmetry. More light is bounced around by the antique mirrored splashback behind the range cooker, which reflects elements of greenery from the conservatory dining area.
