Our clients originally wanted built-in ovens and a separate hob. However, after a lively and interesting design consultation, we all came to the conclusion that a range cooker with a false chimney above would be the way forward. This decision meant that the island could be free of appliances, and the position of the range cooker created a focal point and sense of symmetry for the entire room. We also suggested a curved oak breakfast-bar overhang to the island, which emphasises the curved corners of the floor-standing cabinets. The choice of paint colour (Little Greene’s French Grey) for the main run of wall cabinets means that although the cabinets are full-height, they don’t overpower the room. The island is painted in a slightly darker shade, adding a nice contrast to the Quarella Blanco Paloma worksurfaces.
