Gemma and Andy came to us in Spring 2022, having received a recommendation from their friends. They were determined to transform their kitchen space without undertaking extensive building work. Despite the size of their current kitchen and dining space, their existing setup lacked functionality as it tried to perform too many different roles. Furthermore, they were keen to establish a more streamlined and sophisticated aesthetic.
We recommended transitioning from an L-shaped configuration with an island to a U-shaped layout with a peninsula. This would open up the space, facilitating a more efficient workflow while clearly separating the kitchen and dining zones. Peninsulas can sometimes have the opposite effect, blocking walkways and hindering movement. However, this feature complements Gemma and Andy’s space perfectly. Additionally, the strategic location of the utility room on the side ensured uninterrupted access.
Inspired by our client’s vision, our goal was to design a kitchen that was not only efficient but also maximised the existing space. The peninsula promotes interaction between the cook and others, enhancing the room’s social dynamics. Subtle details, such as the rattan bar stools and the wooden flooring, bring warmth to the design. We strategically placed the Belfast sink beneath the window, showcasing picturesque garden views. We positioned the primary appliances against the back wall alongside a spacious double larder, which provides plenty of storage for pantry essentials. Little Greene’s radiant Putti creates an airy ambience that enhances the room’s natural light, making it feel even more spacious and refreshing.
