Our clients wanted a functional and striking kitchen and utility area spread across a large wall with differing heights. The main features the client wanted were to have plenty of storage for a growing family, a large island with no seating, a large double larder, and to have a utility section with coat storage. The clients wanted a traditional look to the cabinets which we achieved with cockbeaded frames and quadrant moulding for the door panels. This design was quite challenging because we had the mezzanine area which drops down to the kitchen on the ground level. It was important to get the balance right between the heights of the units on the different levels and to try and find an aesthetic where the units did not overpower each other. We achieved this by making the kitchen units the full 2.5m and then the utility area units 2m tall, this along with making the utility section area deeper achieves great balance and two distinguished areas. For the rest of the kitchen and island design, we ensured everything was symmetrical so that the view from the table is perfect.
